What is Letsap?
Letsap is a software package, utility design and development house, working exclusively in the Pastel Partner and Xpress environment. Letsap produces packaged software that attaches to or works with Pastel, to address niche market areas that are not catered for by Pastel itself, or to provide useful facilities that are not in the core product.
Letsap is a Pastel Authorized 3rd Party Developer and a licensed user of the Pastel Software Development Kit. Software packages are sold directly to end users as well as via suitably resourced Pastel Value Added Resellers.
Background
The company was formed in 2002 by Gideon Muller. Gideon had spent many years in a development role at Pastel, being Director of the Development team for 3 years. He saw the opportunity to use his very deep knowledge of the Pastel range to develop specialist systems for Pastel users where the core software did not have quite the right facilities for the user. This did not imply any criticism of Pastel – on the contrary Gideon was proud of the work he and his team had done to bring Pastel to so many customers in South Africa and internationally. But no major developer of shrink-wrapped software can possibly cater for everyone’s needs in all circumstances. That lead to the formation of Letsap – ‘we know Pastel backwards’.
Initially the company did a substantial amount of one-off customised software, but a demand rapidly appeared for more standard products. It also became clear that the market had started to realise that continual development one-off systems was both expensive to produce and difficult to maintain. Reacting to that market demand Letsap focused on producing packaged add-on software that could be used by many to reduce the cost and that was much easier to maintain. This trend has progressed to where Letsap no longer writes individual customised software.
The company has grown, and developed a number of innovative products for both niche markets and for across-the-board use by Pastel users. The company now employs 7 people at its headquartered in Gallo Manor, Gauteng.
Staff profile and skills
“We know Pastel backwards” is no idle boast. Company Owner Gideon Muller is widely regarded as one of the most knowledgeable about Pastel, and he has recruited and trained a small but highly skilled team of software specialists and developers. The team currently includes software developers, specialist in quality control and support and customer liaison officers.
The company ethic is to do whatever it takes to ensure satisfied customers. That goal starts long before the need to react to complaints – Letsap staff work hard to eliminate possible causes of customer dissatisfaction right from the inception of the packages. They follow through with making the packages easy to operate, and then train and support the customers in the use of the systems. The demand for quality, both of the software and of the caliber of response to customer issues is a major characteristic of the company.
